BENGALURU: Karnataka's government has expressed its inability to control online gambling in the state. The High Court recently issued an order invalidating the government's guidelines criminalising online gaming and betting.

On Monday, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai expressedhis helplessness regarding online gambling in the state parliamentary Assembly. He also argued that the online gambling operators are far too dominant.

With considerable excitement, the Karnataka government passed a new law modifying the Karnataka Police (Amendment) Act prohibiting betting and wagering on online games. The BJP government has declared that online betting, which has ruined families, will be prohibited.

The state government has looked into other states' laws. Other states are in a similar predicament, which demonstrates how powerful the people involved are, he said in the Assembly.

Rameshkumar, a former speaker and senior Congress leader, highlighted the issue during the session and urged the ruling BJP to take action, citing the increasing growth of betting throughout the IPL seasons.

Officers had told Chief Minister Bommai about this before the law was enacted, he said. One of the gaming companies offered to finance free Covid vaccinations for his whole Shiggaov constituency. Bommai said that he had turned down the offer.
