Karnataka: On Friday, the Karnataka government decided to suspend the weekend curfew that had been imposed to combat the spread of COVID-19 infections. The night curfew, which runs from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. every day, will remain in effect.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai convened a meeting with specialists, top ministers, and government officials to review the state's COVID-19 status and the controls in place to prevent it from spreading.

"On Saturday and Sunday, the weekend curfew will be repealed. This decision was made based on the findings of the experts and is subject to certain conditions. Hospitalization is now around 5% of the population. We would re-impose the weekend curfew if it rises," Revenue Minister R Ashoka warned. "People, various organisations, and political officials from all parties have asked for the weekend curfew to be lifted, but we have made this decision based on professional reports." However, the daily night curfew of 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., as well as a 50 percent occupancy regulation, will remain in effect," he stated.

Due to an increase in cases, the government agreed last week to extend existing COVID restrictions, such as night curfews and weekend curfews, until the end of January. Protests, demonstrations, fairs, and events would continue to be restricted, according to the ministry.
