Bangalore: The Karnataka High Court is hearing on Tuesday against restraining UP police from taking action in the case registered against Twitter India MD Manish Maheshwari. Earlier, a bench of Justice G Narendra had issued an interim order restraining the UP police from taking action against Maheshwari. The order has been challenged by the UP Police in the apex court.

Twitter India MD Manish Maheshwari was scheduled to appear at Loni police station last Thursday for questioning over a viral video of a Muslim elderly man from Bulandshahr in UP shaving his beard in Loni. But he did not reach the police station and had filed an anticipatory bail plea in the Karnataka High Court to avoid arrest. The Karnataka High Court, while hearing the matter last time, had told the Ghaziabad police that you cannot be strict in this way. You enquire through video conferencing.

Manish Maheshwari defended himself and said in court that he is not among the directors of the company. The directors of the company are sitting abroad. He looks after sales and marketing here, so it is not his responsibility to put what kind of content is being put on Twitter. After hearing his case, the court directed Ghaziabad police not to be strict and asked them to be questioned in a virtual manner.
