Kerala Governor on hijab controversy: 'Neither hijab is a part of Islam nor...'

Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has recently given his comments on the hijab controversy. "Neither the hijab is a part of Islam nor is it fair to compare it with the turbans of the Sikhs.'' At the same time, he said 'The hijab is mentioned in the Quran, but it is not related to the dress code of women. According to Islam, hijab means related to purdah, which means that when you speak to someone you have to be a veil.' At the same time, he rejected the arguments of being compared to the turban of Sikhs, saying that the turban is an essential part of Sikhism, while not with the hijab.

He further termed the hijab controversy as a "conspiracy," saying, "It is not a matter of choice, but the question is whether a person will follow the rules, dress code of an institution or not." At the same time, reacting to the controversy over the issue in Karnataka, he told reporters in New Delhi that 'Please don't take it as a controversy... It is a conspiracy. Muslim girls are doing "very well" everywhere and hence need encouragement. You don't have to push them down.' At the same time, he further said, "It is not a question of choice (wearing a hijab), but a question of whether you will follow the rules, discipline and dress code if you are joining an institution or not.''

Let me tell you all that the Governor of Kerala had said a day before that there have been instances of women refusing to cover up if we look at the history of Islam. However, he did not express his opinion openly but to make his point of view, he told the story of a young woman, who is said to be a relative of Pangbar. In such a situation, Khan recently told reporters, 'I will tell you one thing...a young girl, who grew up in the house of the Prophet... she was a relative of the Prophet's wife. She was so beautiful... that's what history says... read it.'
