Bengaluru: With the increasing corona infection cases in India, the capacity of continuous testing is also being enhanced. In the meantime, the Medical Education Minister of Karnataka said on Wednesday that while increasing its testing capacity, Karnataka is looking at more than 50,000 tests every day, and so far has done more than 25 lakh tests.
He further said that "The state has increased rapidly the testing, it is increasing the capacity of the lab from 02 to 108. In the last 5 days, we did 3,23,753 tests every day with over 50,000 tests. Yesterday we crossed 25 lakh tests and till now we have done 25,13,555 tests". The minister recently said that the government is planning to increase 75,000 tests every day soon.
As a step towards increasing testing, the State COVID Task Force has recently reduced the cost of reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests by five hundred rupees. The cost of RT-PCR tests referenced to private hospitals in government hospitals has been reduced from Rs 2,000 to Rs 1,500, and for those going directly to private labs, the cost has been reduced from Rs 3,000 to Rs 2,500. In order to speed up the test earlier this month, the task force decided to purchase two million new rapid antigen test kits and eighteen lakh RT-PCR test kits.
