Mumbai: Minister and senior Congress leader DK Shivakumar, who arrived in Mumbai to persuade the rebel MLAs of Karnataka, has been detained by the police. Despite the rebel MLAs clearly conceding, he was adamant about meeting them and even staged a dharna outside the hotel. Meanwhile, he has been taken into custody by the Mumbai Police after section 144 was imposed in the Powai police station area in the wake of fears of breach of peace. Earlier, there was a lot of tension between him and the police.

Earlier, Karnataka Minister and senior Congress leader D.K.Shivkumar had come to celebrate the 11 rebel MLAs who were staying at the Renaissance Mumbai Convention Centre Hotel and were not allowed inside the hotel by the police.

In fact, the Rebel MLAs had already urged the Mumbai Police to increase their lives and therefore enhance their security. While the police had beefed up security, they refused to meet ShivKumar. So Shivkumar was not allowed to enter the hotel. Later, Shivkumar said, "I will not go without meeting my friends. They'll call me. Their hearts will be broken. I'm in touch with them."
