Bangalore: In Kolar, Karnataka, some right-wing groups set fire to Christian religious books, protesting against the conversion of the church. No one has been arrested in the case yet. On the case, police said the Christian community has been warned against distributing religious booklets. No right-wing group member has been arrested in the incident so far.
The incident took place when representatives of the Christian community were on their way from house to house as part of a campaign. Members of right-wing groups stopped and questioned them, and then snatched the books and set them on fire. In Karnataka, there have been several cases of attacks on religious minorities in the last 12 months. Such attacks started in the state when the BJP government in the state started considering a bill to ban forced conversions.
On Sunday, CM Basavaraj Bommai said the bill on forced conversions will be introduced for discussion in the winter session of the assembly and it will keep people from forcibly converting. Bommai said, 'The Bill is only to prevent conversion by inducement.' Referring to one such law in Uttar Pradesh, he said, 'Most people want a similar law to be brought to Karnataka after studying the laws made in other states.'
