BANGALORE: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai informed that  Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has agreed to give Rs 1,000 crore for the construction of rail over-bridges/under-bridges in various towns and cities other than National Highways.

A proposal in this connection would be submitted within a week, the Chief Minister said.

Speaking to the media after taking part in a national highway review meeting here on Thursday that was presided over by Gadkari, he stated that the Bangalore-Mysuru Express Highway would be open by the end of February or the beginning of March.

The development of Satellite Town Ring Road outside of Bannerghatta National Park was also decided. The minister gave the go-ahead to build flyovers on city-area roadways in order to reduce traffic in Bengaluru City.

The CM claimed that during the meeting, it was also discussed how to give travellers last-mile connectivity from Bengaluru City's metro stations. In Raichur, Koppal, Yadgir, and Shivamogga, ring road building will begin this year, it was decided.

Bommai said that since the state government will cover the cost of land purchase as well as a GST reduction, the meeting voted to approve the royalty concession on the sand, broken stones, and other construction materials needed for all projects.

The construction of four lanes in Shiradi Ghat has been put out to tender, and work will begin in March. He stated that plans for a tunnel road project with an estimated cost of Rs 10,000 crore would be created and moved forward.

Due to re-tendering, the Hospet-Ballari National Highway project is stalled. In February, the work will begin.
