Dinesh Karthik's absence in the series against Australia raised many eyebrows within the Indian cricketing fraternity. With Rishabh Pant failing to prove his worth in the two opportunities, Kolkata Knight Riders assistant coach Simon Katich is of the opinion that Karthik will be in the mix of things for Virat Kohli's men in England & Wales. Considering the experience that Karthik brings to the table, Simon Katich is of the opinion that Karthik should be among the 15 that India finalise on for the World Cup.

Katich on Thursday said that I think what Dinesh brings in his experience (in crunch situations). He has played that role very well for India and for us. You know what you will get from him down the innings. He is hard to bowl to. He further added that “So he will be in the mix for the World Cup. It will give the Indian selectors a tough job to pick with so much talent around.”
The KKR assistant coach was also full of praise for youngster Shubman Gill who is being touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket. The former Aussie batsman backed Gill to play all formats for India in the future. Katich said, “I am sure pretty soon he will be permanently in the Indian setup. He obviously has got talent and had a fantastic IPL last year.”
