We all are excited for Karwa Chauth, specially the ladies and married women are very excited for this auspicious occasion. It will fall on October 13 this year. The festival is observed by married Hindu women, who keep nirjala fasts for the long lives of their husbands It is also known as Karak Chaturthi, is right around the corner. It is observed during Krishna Paksha Chaturthi of Kartik month. The festival holds much significance for married Hindu women, especially from North India, who observe a strict fast on this day to pray for prosperity, safety and long life for their husbands. Here are things you should avoid  if you are fasting on Karwa Chauth

  1. Do not skip Solah Sringar as Doing solah shringar is one of the most important things for women, which consists of sindoor, bindi, mangal sutra, bangles, Mehandi etc. As this occasion for married women and solah sringars are consider important according to Hindu Tradition.
  2. Do not apply Mehndi instantly. The mehndi should be applied at least a day before Karva Chauth because it needs some time for the colour to darken on your hands. As it will look beautiful.
  3. Do not break your fast with fried food as it may lead to an upset stomach, loose motions, gastric irritability or bloating.  As per some rituals one should end their vrat by drinking a few drops of water.
  4. Don’t skip sargi as Sargi is a special thali containing different food items and gifts given to married women by their mother-in-law.
  5. Do not wear black or white shades for their clothes. The other colours one can wear on this special occasion are While red is considered an auspicious colour  you can also go for yellow, green, pink, and orange, among other shades.
  6. Do not skip pooja ceremony. Married women should participate in the Karwa Chauth puja and listen to the Katha in the evening before breaking the fast. Without following this ritual, the nirjala vrat is considered incomplete.
  7.  Women are advised to not use scissors, needles or knives while observing Karwa Chauth.
  8. Do not break your fast with Non veg,  Married women and their family members should avoid eating non-vegetarian dishes on Karwa Chauth day as they are considered tamasic in nature. Try to avoid onion and garlic.
