New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday (March 21, 2022) conferred Padma awards on many celebrities including 125-year-old yoga guru Swami Sivananda of Kashi at the award ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. During the felicitation ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, when President Ram Nath Kovind announced his name to confer the Padma Shri on yoga guru Swami Sivananda, he hurriedly rose from his chair and bowed to him thrice.

 

First of all he bowed his head in front of PM Narendra Modi. During this, the Prime Minister also got up from the chair and bowed to Swami Sivananda. Several leaders including Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and Home Minister Amit Shah got up from their chairs in his honor and greeted the yoga guru with applause. After this, Yoga Guru Sivananda bowed twice and bowed down to the President. Seeing this scene, President Kovind also got up from his chair and went ahead and picked up Swami Sivananda and was awarded the Padma Shri. It is said that Baba Shivanand is a resident of Kabirnagar area, he is completely healthy even at the age of 125.

According to the information, the date of birth of Swami Sivananda is recorded on the Aadhar card as 8 August 1896. He was born in Srihatti district of Bengal. After the death of the parents due to hunger, they eat only half the stomach. After the death of his parents, he came to Kashi from Bengal and took initiation from Guru Omkaranand here. In 1925, on the orders of his guru, he went on a world tour and roamed around the country and abroad for about 34 years. The Padma Awards are given in three categories. The first is Padma Vibhushan, the second is Padma Bhushan and the third is Padma Shri. Today two personalities were awarded the Padma Vibhushan, eight the Padma Bhushan and 54 the Padma Shri.
