Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi's Chief Minister, has taken his battle against his recent arrest to the Supreme Court. He's contesting a decision by the Delhi High Court that upheld his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a case related to excise policy. Kejriwal argues that his arrest, conveniently timed during the Lok Sabha elections, was politically motivated.

Kejriwal's plea emphasizes that his arrest during a critical election period raises concerns about democracy and fair play. He claims that the ED's actions were influenced by vested interests aiming to undermine him politically. Kejriwal insists that there's no substantial evidence linking him to any wrongdoing under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The appeal also highlights procedural irregularities surrounding Kejriwal's arrest. It points out that the ED relied on old statements from co-accused turned approvers, without providing Kejriwal an opportunity to respond. Moreover, it stresses that no new evidence has surfaced since those statements were recorded.

Kejriwal's petition stresses the urgency of his release to ensure his participation in the upcoming elections. It warns against setting a precedent of targeting political opponents with baseless charges before elections, which could threaten the core principles of Indian democracy.

The Supreme Court is expected to hear Kejriwal's case soon, and he hopes for a favorable ruling that would declare his arrest illegal.
