Chandigarh: Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal criticized actor and BJP MP Sunny Deol on Saturday for his prolonged absence from his constituency since winning the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Speaking at a rally in Punjab's Gurdaspur, Kejriwal asserted that individuals like Sunny Deol, despite their stature, fail to take meaningful action. He urged the public to vote for the "aam aadmi" (common man) in the upcoming general elections next year.

"You voted for Sunny Deol last time. But he didn’t come here at all. What was the benefit? We thought he is such a big actor, if we vote for him, he will do something. These big people won’t do anything," remarked Arvind Kejriwal. "Vote for Aam Aadmi this time. They will at least come to your use. Don’t fall for the deception of all these parties. Analyze the work they have done in the past one and a half years and vote accordingly," he added. Several residents of Gurdaspur had previously complained about Sunny Deol's absence and the lack of development work in the constituency, expressing regret over electing the Bollywood actor as their MP.

In 2020, posters declaring Sunny Deol as missing were displayed near the railway station in Pathankot. Notably, during an interview in September this year, following the success of Gadar 2, when asked about his low attendance in Parliament, Sunny Deol admitted that he realized politics was not his calling. Sunny Deol contested the 2019 Lok Sabha polls on a BJP ticket from Gurdaspur and secured victory over Congress candidate Sunil Jakhar by a margin of over 82,000 votes.
