New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has lauded the 14 percent surge in per capita income for city residents, attributing it to the collective "hard work" and "innovative and forward-looking steps" taken by his government. In a post on X, Kejriwal expressed pride in the substantial increase, emphasizing the collaborative efforts of the two crore Delhiites and the continuous dedication of the Delhi government over the past nine years. Despite this achievement, he acknowledged that more work remains to be done, quoting "Miles to go before I sleep."
According to the Statistical Handbook-2023 released by the Delhi government, the per capita income in the city rose from Rs 3,89,529 to Rs 4,44,768 in the current financial year, surpassing the national average by 158 percent. The government also highlighted that Delhi boasts the highest minimum wages in the country: Rs 17,494 for unskilled, Rs 19,279 for semi-skilled, and Rs 21,215 for skilled workers.
Minister Atishi, from the Planning Department, emphasized the new benchmarks set by the Kejriwal-led AAP government in the public services sector in 2023, despite facing numerous challenges, during the release of the Statistical Handbook. The handbook data revealed that the number of electricity consumers in Delhi increased by nearly 2.8 lakh, with over 1 lakh new water connections added in 2022-23. Additionally, more than 3.41 crore electricity bills with zero charges were generated under the free electricity scheme, covering monthly usage up to 200 units.
The report also outlined achievements in public transportation, the adoption of electric vehicles, and the successful implementation of distribution and welfare schemes.
