NEW DELHI: As the Delhi Assembly election draws near, Arvind Kejriwal, the National Convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has made a direct appeal to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters to back his party. He emphasized that a victory for the BJP would mean the end of key welfare schemes introduced by his government.
During a conversation with a BJP supporter, Kejriwal shared an interesting note - A few days ago, I met a loyal BJP supporter who asked me, 'What'll take place if you lose ?' Kejriwal recalled. He responded by asking the supporter what his family would face if AAP lost the election. When the supporter mentioned that his children attended government schools, which had improved due to AAP's reforms, Kejriwal highlighted that such benefits could be at risk if the BJP took over.
Kejriwal further explained that if AAP were to lose, Delhiites would face a significant financial burden, around Rs. 25,000 more in expenses. He went on to warn that free electricity, water, healthcare, bus rides for women, and quality education would all be cut off if the BJP came to power.
In his appeal to BJP supporters, Kejriwal made a final plea: "I urge you to think about your family and your future. A BJP government will halt all these schemes, costing you around Rs 25,000. Can you afford this loss? I don’t think so. Vote for AAP in this election, even if you don’t leave the BJP."
As the February 5 election date approaches, AAP leaders have been stressing the importance of backing their party, while BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have assured voters that welfare schemes will continue under their government.
The Delhi Assembly election will take place on February 5, with vote counting scheduled for February 8.
