Malappuram: A 52-year-old woman was arrested on Friday in Kerala's  Malappuram district for allegedly selling methylenedioxy-methamphetamine (MDMA) , said police.

Thirteen grams of methylenedioxy-methamphetamine, a weighing device and Rs 20,000 were captured from her rented house in the Morayur area of Malapuram, the police added.

The culprit woman is identified as Razia Begam, a native of Pookkottur in the Malappuram district.

Also, the police on Thursday detained some youths in Karipur of Malappuram district who were allegedly using drugs in Karipur.  . Following their interrogation, it was discovered that they brought the drugs from Morayur. Based on the information given by the youths, the police then kept an eye on the Morayur apartments that were rented out.

The police are investigating the sources from where she is getting drugs. As per the police, Razia Begum is the main link in the drug trafficking network in other states. 

Methylenedioxy-methamphetamine (MDMA) is a synthetic drug that alters mood and perception. It is commonly known as "ecstasy" or "molly." MDMA is chemically similar to both stimulants and hallucinogens, and it produces feelings of increased energy, pleasure, emotional warmth, and distorted sensory and time perception. MDMA's danger lies in the fact that it can cause a variety of harmful physical and psychological effects. Some of the physical effects can include nausea, chills, sweating, muscle cramping, blurred vision, and high blood pressure. More serious physical effects can include dehydration, overheating, seizures, and heart or kidney failure.
