Kerala CM announces 'Government employees' salary to be cut for next 5 months'

Kochi: In order to fight the Kona Rona virus epidemic, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan has instructed the employees of the state to deduct one month's salary. During a briefing on Wednesday, Pinarayi Vijayan said that the government will deduct the salary of state employees for six days per month for the next five months.

He said that this deduction will also apply to public sector units, government aided and semi-government institutions. Ministers, MLAs and members of various boards will give 30 percent of their monthly salary for the next year. The government will set up an expert committee to study the decline in the economy caused by an epidemic like Corona, which will give its opinion to come out of the economic recession.

CM Pinarayi Vijayan said that the epidemic had a profound impact on the global economy. Its havoc increased when the country's economic growth slowed from 9 percent to 5 percent. The economy of the world's richest countries has also seen a decline due to coronavirus. Let us tell you that after the floods in 2018 and 2019, now Kerala is facing economic problem due to Corona epidemic. It is believed that the state's growth rate may fall by 7.5 percent.
