Kochi: In view of the increasing number of cases of crying, the state governments are insisting on getting the people vaccinated at the earliest. Kerala, a state badly affected by corona, is in talks with Russia to produce the Sputnik vaccine here. The government has also identified 10 acres of land for the same. It is said to be signed within the next 3 days on its Letter of Intent (LOI). Talks between the two sides on the production of the vaccine started only when there was a huge shortage of vaccines.
Preliminary discussions are currently underway and terms and conditions are being discussed between the two sides. The chief secretary and industry officer of the state are speaking with Russian officials, council generals and direct investment boards (Direct investment board). State Industries Minister P Rajiv said it will be beneficial for the people of Kerala but we have to arrive at a final decision. 10 acres of land has already been earmarked for the project at Life Science Park in Thiruvananthapuram.
Earlier, CM P Vijayan himself had announced to attract companies that are ready to make vaccines from Kerala. Earlier, we have entrusted the responsibility to KSDP (Kerala State Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Limited), he added. The government has constituted an expert committee, and they decided that the land at Life Science Park Thonakkal is suitable for making vaccines.
