Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Friday (May 28, 2021) refused to stay the implementation of the draft Lakshadweep Development Authority Regulation (LDAR) 2021, Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act (PASA). It may be mentioned that recently the Lakshadweep administration had introduced other administrative measures including beef ban.

According to media reports, the Kerala High Court has issued notices to the Central government and the state administration asking them to respond to the PIL within the next two weeks. Congress leader KP Naushad Ali had filed a petition in the Kerala High Court against the reforms brought by the Central government in Lakshadweep. Naushad Ali had claimed in the petition that the administration was trying to destroy the unique culture and tradition of the islands located in the Arabian Sea through this rule. Ali claims that the new rules give broad, arbitrary and uncontrolled forces to the administration of Lakshadweep. This will also affect the possession of property by the islanders.

Hearing Naushad Ali's plea, Kerala High Court Justice Vinod Chandran and Justice MR Anita termed it as a policy matter and asked all stakeholders to share their views with the court. At the same time, the court sent notices to the central government and the island administration asking them to respond within two weeks and adjourned the court.
