Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts  heavy rainfall over South Peninsular India during next 5 days, issues alert for Kerala, Karnataka.

The IMD on Sunday predicted an increase in rainfall over South Peninsular India during the next 5 days till 4 August. The weather office has forecast rainfall over Karnataka , Telangana, , Tamil Nadu, Puducherry  and Kerala.

In a detailed weather update, the department on Sun day said that   fairly widespread to heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning are very likely to affect Telangana on August 3 and 4, coastal and northern interior Karnataka on August 2 and 4, and south interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Kerala from July 31 to August 4. It added that isolated exceptionally heavy rain is also anticipated to fall over Kerala and Mahe between August 2 and August 4, 2022.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Sunday for all of Kerala's districts. The meteorological office has issued an orange alert for Idukki and Kottayam for Monday, August 1st. The remaining districts have received a yellow alert. On August 2, there will be heavy rain, and warnings have been issued for Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Idukki, Kottayam, and Ernakulam. In the state's Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Idukki districts for August 1, an orange alert has been issued.

According to an IMD district rainfall estimate released for Kerala at 1 PM on Sunday, orange warning has been issued in 8 districts for August 2, 12 for August 3, and 12 for August 4.
