Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange signal for rain in six districts of Kerala on Monday, including Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasargod. A yellow notice has been issued for the rest of the state's districts.
An orange rainfall alert, according to the IMD, indicates very severe rains ranging from 6cm to 20cm. A yellow alert denotes heavy rainfall of 6 to 11 cm, while a red alert denotes the possibility of torrential rains of more than 20 cm in 24 hours. A Low-Pressure Area extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level over the north Andaman Sea and its environs, with the associated cyclonic circulation.
During the next 48 hours, it is expected to move west northwestwards and become clearly demarcated over East-central and adjacent Southeast Bay of Bengal. Following that, it is expected to continue west-northwestwards, reaching Westcentral and adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal along the beaches of south Andhra Pradesh and north Tamil Nadu around November 18, according to the IMD. The cyclonic circulation in South Interior Karnataka and bordering North Interior Tamil Nadu has combined with the cyclonic circulation mentioned above.
