Thiruvananthapuram: A fire broke out in the Protocol Department located in the North Block of the Secretariat in Kerala on Tuesday evening. The opposition Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA sat on the dharna. The MLA has alleged that the department has bee set to fire under a conspiracy. They alleged that it is a conspiracy to destroy the proof of the gold smuggling case.

Kerala President of BJP, who is protesting, has been taken into custody. Sources in the Fire and Rescue Department said that the fire has been controlled. Sources said that the department got information about the fire at around five o'clock in the evening and immediately fire vehicles were sent on the occasion.

Additional secretary of the maintenance cell at the secretariat, P Haney said that there was a suspicion of fire due to a short circuit in a computer, which has been extinguished. The officer told a news channel, "No important file has been destroyed. They are all safe. There were no casualties in the incident". The police have Baton-charged the Youth Congress workers who were protesting in Kozhikode against the fire in Secretariat in Thiruvananthapuram. These people were going towards Kozhikode police chief's office. During this time the police tried to stop them, the police baton-charged to control the situation. It is also being told that due to baton- charge, the Congress workers have also suffered serious injuries.
