Thiruvananthapuram: The Digital University Kerala (DUK), in collaboration with the Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology (C-MET) in Thrissur, will establish India's first graphene innovation centre in Kerala for Rs 86.41 crore. This will be the country's first graphene Research and Development (R&D) incubator. Tata Steel Limited is expected to be the center's industrial partner.

The project has received approval from India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The initiative, which will be carried out with the cooperation of the Kerala government, is anticipated to help the state's knowledge industry sector grow faster.

Dr. AP James of DUK and Dr. A Seema of C-MET are the project's chief investigators and will also lead it. Scientists from the National Graphene Institute, the University of Manchester, and other industrial partners from around the world are among the major collaborators.

“We expect the centre to provide students, researchers, established enterprises and fledgling startups to test and explore new revolutionary goods, and make it a thriving environment for inventive graphene-based product development,” said Saji Gopinath, Vice Chancellor of DUK.
