THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Following the rescue of a 23-year-old trekker from a forest, two State Ministers stated on Monday that the Forest and other departments will not accept any additional violations by people who go trekking without permission.
A.K. Saseendran, the state forest minister, stated that the consideration shown to Babu will not be extended to people who disobey the rules and engage in trekking.
Interestingly, shortly after the trekker, Babu, was released from the hospital after being rescued, officials from the Forest Department decided to pursue him for breaking Forest rules. Saseendran, on the other hand, came to Babu's rescue after his mother pleaded for no action and the department officials withdrew.
"Proper laws and regulations will be in place, and those who break them will be prosecuted," Saseendran said.
Babu was rescued by the Army on February 7 after becoming stuck in a fault line of the Koormbachi hilltop near Palakkad. At the hospital, he was greeted as a hero. Babu has stated in media interviews that if given the proper training, he will be able to climb Mount Everest. However, he was mocked on social media, with people attacking Babu and criticising his actions. They said that the rescue mission cost the state exchequer Rs 7.5 million because a team of Army officers from Tamil Nadu, as well as two helicopters, were called into service.
