CHENNAI: Khushbu Sundar, the actor-turned politician from Tamil Nadu, has been nominated for election to the National Commission for Women. She currently serves on the national executive committee of the BJP.

K. Annamalai, the head of the BJP in Tamil Nadu, congratulated Ms. Sundar on behalf of his party in a social media post and added that it was an acknowledgment of her tenacious pursuit and struggle for women's rights.

The actor, who is also a producer of films and a television host, initially joined the DMK before switching to the Congress and serving as its spokesperson. She ultimately joined the BJP and ran for the party in the 2021 election for the Thousand Lights Assembly seat, but was defeated by N. Ezhilan of the DMK.

Member of National Commission for Women Notice: In a notice released by the Union Government's Ministry of Women and Child Development, Mamata Kumari, Telina Kangdub, and Khushpu Sundar are suggested for appointment to the National Commission for Women (NCW). They will serve for three years, or until they reach 65, whichever comes first, or until further orders.

Appreciation of Annamalai: Upon getting nominated, Khushbu Sundar said that  that this was a recognition for her unremitting commitment and struggle for women's rights.  Khushbu, who started his film career in 1980, joined DMK in 2010 and started his political career.
