Indore: Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon died today i.e. on 21st July 2020 at Medanta Hospital in Lucknow. Born on April 12, 1935, in Lucknow, the capital of UP, Tandon joined the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) at the age of 12 and rose from the post of ward councillor to governor. In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP defeated Tandon from the Lucknow Lok Sabha seat. Prior to this, former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was elected MP from Lucknow.

Tandon, one of the tallest leaders of the BJP, was also elected councillor for the first time in the year 1960, after being a councillor twice, he was elected to the Legislative Council for the first time in 1978. He was also a member of the Legislative Council twice between 1978 and 1996. Then for the first time in 1996, he was elected to the UP Legislative Assembly. After being an MLA three times, he contested and won the Lok Sabha elections for the first time in 2009. He contested the Lok Sabha elections for the first time and maintained the legacy of Vajpayee by winning over 40,000 votes.

Tandon became a minister in the government led by Kalyan Singh in 1991-92. He was the urban development minister in the coalition government of BJP and BSP in UP. He was also the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly. On August 23, 2018, he was made the Governor of Bihar for the first time. On July 29, 2019, he became the Governor of MP.
