The festival is a symbol of our happiness and joy, which vary in its appearance according to the situation. The laws and regulations of celebrating the festival may also be different, but it means the attainment of enjoyment or the preservation of a specific faith. There is a mythological story associated with all the festivals and these stories are mostly related to faith rather than logic. It can also be said that mythology is symbolic. The festival of Diwali is celebrated on the new moon day of Kartik month.

Diwali is not a festival but a series of festivals. There are five festivals associated with this festival. All the festivals are associated with mythological stories. The festival of Diwali starts two days before Diwali and ends after two days. Diwali begins on the day of Trayodashi, the Krishna Paksha of Kartik month. It is called Dhanteras. On this day, Dhanvantari, the god of Ayurveda, is worshipped.

On this day, it is custom to buy new utensils, jewelery etc. Goddess Lakshmi is invoked on this day by lighting ghee. Chaturdashi is celebrated on the second day as 'Narak Chaturdashi'. It is also called Chhoti Diwali. On this day, mustard oil and five grains are put in an old lamp and it is kept burning on the drain and side of the house. This lamp is called Yam lamp.
