Talking about India, according to the 1961 census, 1652 languages are spoken here. Of these, 42.2 crore persons have Hindi their mother tongue. There are 29 such languages in India, the number of people who speak them is more than 10 lakh. There are 7 languages spoken in India, which have more than one lakh speakers. There are 122 languages in India that have more than 10,000 speakers.
