WHO Director-General Tedross Edhonom Ghebreyes and Mike Ryan, the organization's emergency head, have called on all countries to implement health measures rigorously. This includes wearing masks, social distancing, hand cleaning, and testing.

"The message is clear to all people and governments to adopt all the above measures," Tedross said in his statement at a virtual press conference at the headquarters in Geneva. He said that face masks should become a symbol of solidarity in the whole world. Further, Ryan said that many vaccines are in the third stage of clinical trials. We are all hopeful that many vaccines will save people from getting infected. However, there is no way to avoid it at this time, and may never be found.
