New Delhi: In Manipur, Home Minister Amit Shah visited the state after the violence on May 3. He held a meeting with different communities and appealed for restoration of peace in the state. A judicial commission headed by former Gauhati High Court Chief Justice Ajay Lamba was set up to probe the violence. Here, people of Kuki community of Manipur are protesting outside Amit Shah's house in Delhi.

People protesting outside Amit Shah's house say that Amit Shah had said that peace will return to the state, so we have come to meet him. Even today, the State Force is committing violence against the Kuki society. That is why we have come to meet the Home Minister in a peaceful manner, demanding peace. The protesters include Kuki, Jomi, Hamar and Mizo communities from Manipur. They say that they are protesting against the daily killings of our family members in the state. We appeal to our sisters and friends to come and register their protest against the atrocities committed on our community.

In Manipur, the demand for inclusion of Maitei community in ST category has intensified. The High Court has also ordered the state government to consider the demand. The state's student organization had taken out a march against this demand on May 3. The march took place in Torbang area of Churchandpur district. Thousands of protesters participated in this rally. This led to violence between tribals and non-tribals. Police fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. The situation worsened so much that the state government sought help from the Centre. Later, army and paramilitary forces were deployed.
