Popular filmmaker Kumar Ramsay, who scripted most of the Ramsay Brothers horror films, passed away on Thursday following a heart attack. Kumar Ramsay was 85 years old. Kumar's eldest son Gopal said Kumar breathed his last at his residence in Hiranandani in Mumbai. Kumar is survived by his wife Sheila and three sons Raj, Gopal, and Sunil.
Gopal said, "He died of a heart attack at 5.30 am today. He left us all.'' The cremation was scheduled to take place around 12 o'clock. Kumar was the son of filmmaker FU Ramsay and the eldest of seven brothers. The Ramsay brothers included Kesu, Tulsi, Karan, Shyam, Gangu, and Arjun who dominated the production of horror films. He used to make low-budget cult movies in the 70s and 80s.
At the same time, Kumar played a key role in writing scripts for most of the Ramsay Brothers films, including 'Purana Mandir' (1984), 'Saya,' and 'Khoj' (1989). 'Saya' was played by Shatrughan Sinha and the 1989 hit 'Khoj' starred actors Rishi Kapoor and Naseeruddin Shah in lead roles. He also produced movies like 'Aur Kon?' in 1979 and 'Dehshat' in 1981.
