The demise of KV Anand last month due to COVID-19 is one loss that Kollywood and the cinematographer-turned-director’s fans are yet to come to terms with. Now, Anand’s assistants have joined hands and come out with a tribute video for their mentor. The video, titled Goodbye Master, has behind-the-scenes footage and pictures from the films of the director, with the song Yaaro Yaaro, from his 2012 film Maattrraan, playing in the background.

Talking about the video, Kaga, who assisted the late filmmaker, says, “The year 2019 was KV Anand sir’s 25th year in films. At the press meet of Kaappaan, they had announced a plan to organise an event to celebrate his journey from Thenmavin Kombath till Kaappaan.

Unfortunately, that didn’t materialise. Since I had a background in the TV industry, I had the experience of putting together celebratory features. So, I called up his assistants and we all decided to organise an intimate event with his assistants alone.”

Around 25 of his assistants were part of this celebration, which was held at Anand’s guesthouse in Uthandi on ECR, and they had presented him with a huge photo as memento. They also got Mohanlal to launch this pic on social media. “We had intended to do something grand after the pandemic got over, but unfortunately, sir passed away. After his demise, we collected footage of him that many of us had and made a montage out of it. We reached out to a major audio label and they also offered their support,” says Kaga.

They also showed this video to the filmmaker’s family, and it was a bittersweet moment for them, says Kaga. “Sir maintained a clear distinction between his personal and professional lives, so they weren’t aware of how he was on the sets. So, it was heartwarming for them in that sense,” he says.
