HYDERABAD: Officials installed around 10 foot-over-bridges (FOBs) in the city, especially for the elderly and students, but most of the lift facilities are not operational due to lack of electricity connection and proper maintenance. People are forced to climb stairs. Also, some FOBs do not have lift.

The installation of two lifts at Road No. 3, Banjara Hills was completed about two years back. In the absence of electricity meters, the officials failed to turn them on, due to which senior faculty members, passersby and students are also upset. Another FOB lift in front of KBR Park near LV Prasad Eye Institute has stopped working. Many patients of the institute and many elderly people including families of patients are forced to cross the road on foot.

The busy road, which falls in a VIP corridor, causes many accidents due to the high-intensity traffic coming from the Jubilee check post. On one hand the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is planning to build 30 more FOBs. When asked about the maintenance of the existing FOB, the officials remained silent. Pedestrians, on the other hand, continue to use the stairs on the other side of the road or to reach bus stations.
