LAHORE: Unidentified gunmen killed a member of the Sikh community in a drive-by shooting in the Nawab Town suburb of Lahore, state media reported.

Paramjit Singh Panjwar, a 50-year-old man, was shot by assailants on a motorbike. He was being walked by his bodyguard at around 6:30 a.m. on Saturday near his home in the Sunflower Housing Society when he was attacked, according to the police.

According to a police spokesman, Panjwar was shot in the head and died as a result. The bodyguard was also hurt during the attack and was taken to a nearby hospital, where it was reported that he was in severe condition. After the attack, the attackers ran away, as per Dawn media report.

Police flocked to the scene and blocked off the area to gather evidence. In order to increase patrolling and snap checks and make the arrests, the police have issued a high alert.

As per reports, no one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. The police official stated that teams were pursuing all potential leads and that it would be premature to speculate on Panjwar's murder's motivation. He refused to comment on reports that one of the shooters was also injured in the crossfire, leading media Dawn reported.

In order to learn more about the suspects, police experts tried to gain access to the CCTV footage of the crime site after moving Panjwar's body to the municipal mortuary for autopsy.
