The famous comedian Laxmikant Berde was born on 26th October 1954 at Bombay (Mumbai). He had five elder siblings and sold lottery tickets as a child to increase the income of the family. His share in the plays during cultural activities for the Ganesh Utsav programme at Girgaon showed him an interest in acting. He won the award for taking part in inter-school and inter-college drama competitions. Thereafter, Laxmikant started working in the Mumbai Marathi Literature Association.
Working as an employee in the Marathi Literature Association, Laxmikant started acting in small characters in Marathi plays. In 1983-84, he won his first major role in the Marathi stage play tour of Purushottam Berde, which became a hit and appreciated his comic style. Berde started his movie career from Marathi movie Lake Challi Sasrala of 1984. Thereafter, he and actor Mahesh Kothare made acting together in Dhoom Dhadaka (1984) and D. Dandan (1987). Both these movies were famous and Berde helped establish his trademark comedy style.
In most movies, he either made acting with the Kothare or with actor Ashok Saraf. Laxmikant Berde – Ashok Saraf's duo is recognised as a successful main actor in the Indian movie. Barde, along with Ashok Saraf, Sachin Pilgaonkar and Mahesh Kothare, formed a successful quartet in Marathi movies after acting together in the Marathi movie of 1989.
