Relief from scorching heat for North India including Delhi-Punjab, heavy rain alert in these states

New Delhi: People in north India, including the capital Delhi, have finally got relief from the scorching heatwave. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials said that on Saturday, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi and many parts of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh received heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms. During this period, the maximum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 42.4 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 29 degrees Celsius. According to the IMD, the mercury is likely to remain under control for the next one to two days due to partly cloudy skies and drizzle.

According to the Meteorological Department, there may be thundershowers, dust storms or strong winds with a speed of 30-40 kilometres per hour in Delhi-NCR and adjoining areas. According to a report by Skymet Weather, pre-monsoon rains in Delhi and the National Capital Region may pick up today and the situation may continue till May 24. This may lead to some drop in temperature in Delhi and the National Capital Region. In addition, the Met department has said that the western disturbance formed over south Myanmar and adjoining northwest Thailand has moved in the northeast direction and turned into a deep low-pressure area. There is a western disturbance over northern Afghanistan and adjoining Pakistan and it can reach the western Himalayas today. A cyclonic circulation continues over south interior Karnataka and adjoining areas.

According to a report by Skymet Weather, during the last 24 hours, light to moderate rain has occurred at some places in Kerala, eastern parts of Bihar, Sikkim and western Assam, as well as heavy rainfall at some places. Heatwave conditions continue to prevail in parts of Himachal Pradesh, south-west Uttar Pradesh and north-east Madhya Pradesh. Now the Met department has predicted that during the next 24 hours, Meghalaya, western parts of Assam, Sikkim, Kerala and Andaman And Nicobar islands may receive heavy rainfall at some places with light to moderate rainfall.

Apart from this, light to moderate rain is likely to occur in parts of rest of northeast India, coastal Karnataka, western Himalayas, Lakshadweep and east Bihar. Light rain is possible in isolated parts of Konkan and Goa, South Central Maharashtra, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal and East Madhya Pradesh.
