Launch of Indian satellite GSAT-18 delayed by 24 hours

Chennai: The liftoff of Ariane 5 rocket with Indian satellite GSAT-18 has been delayed till 6th October. The launch has been postponed due to unfavorable weather conditions and thus the rocket launch has been delayed by 24 hours, said French company Arianespace. The Ariane 5 flight will be the 280th mission by the Arianespace launcher family.  

The rocket is likely to liftoff between 2 am and 3.15 am from Kourou (French Guiana) tomorrow.

The launch of the Ariane-5 rocket from Kourou (French Guiana) was planned to take place between Indian time- 2 a.m. and 3.15 a.m today.   

“GSAT-18 is the country's latest communication satellite with 48 transponders that receive and transmit communication signals” Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) said.

The 3,404 kg satellite carrying Ku beaon will be providing services in C-band, upper extended C-band and Ku-bands of the frequency spectrum.  It will help in pointing ground antennas towards the satellite in the precise manner.

For Arianespace, this will be its eighth launch mission this year.

GSAT 18 that is built by ISRO will be providing telecommunication services for India by helping it to strengthen ISRO's current fleet of 14 operational telecom satellites.
