KANPUR: India is set to unveil its inaugural long-range revolver, named 'Prabal', today on the 18th of August. Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited(AWEIL), a government-owned enterprise situated in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, stands ready to introduce 'Prabal,' the inaugural long-range revolver crafted in India. The unveiling ceremony is scheduled for August 18th, heralding the dawn of a fresh epoch in the realm of individual defense armaments.

Crafted by the government-owned entity Advanced Weapons and Equipment India (AWEIL), the Prabal revolver distinguishes itself with a remarkable firing range, reaching up to 50 meters. This impressive range exceeds that of other revolvers by more than twofold.

AK Maurya, the director of AWEIL, highlighted that the Prabal revolver is characterized by its lightweight design and features a side swing cylinder. Its resemblance to a Webley Scott revolver is evident, and it boasts an easily manageable trigger pull.

Weighing in at 700 grams (excluding cartridges), the Prabal revolver sports a barrel length of 76 millimeters, while its total length spans 177.6 millimeters. As per the director of AWEIL, interested individuals can begin placing orders for this revolver starting today. It's noteworthy that civilians with proper licenses will be eligible to purchase the Prabal revolver.

AWEIL is situated in Kanpur's Armapur and functions as a state-owned enterprise. This establishment, formed in 2021, encompasses eight factories that were once part of the Ordinance Factory Board (OFB). AWEIL specializes in the production of small arms and artillery for the Indian armed forces, along with serving foreign military interests. This initiative is a component of the OFB's restructuring and transition into seven distinct Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).

Notably, AWEIL has secured a substantial order worth Rs. 6,000 crore for defense-related products this year. Among these orders is a request for 300 'Sarang' cannons from the Indian Army. The company has also clinched contracts amounting to Rs. 450 crore from various European nations.
