PUNE: In an event marked by the presence of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, the Chandni Chowk Flyover on the Pune-Bangalore highway in Pune, Maharashtra, was officially inaugurated on Saturday. The long-anticipated inauguration had faced delays, but finally, the momentous occasion arrived. Following the conclusion of the inaugural ceremony today, the flyover will be accessible for traffic.

Nitin Gadkari shared that this comprehensive project encompasses the construction of four flyovers, the widening of one underpass, and the creation of two new underpasses. The primary objective of the Chandni Chowk flyover project is to alleviate traffic congestion within Pune, Maharashtra. Gadkari emphasized that this 16.98 km-long bridge, costing Rs. 865 crore, is poised to resolve the pressing traffic issues within the city and its adjacent districts.

Within the broader span of this 16 km project, a 2.2 km-long Chandni Chowk Interchange has been successfully completed. This key intersection features 2-lane internal and 2-lane external services on both sides of the Mumbai-Bangalore highway. An impressive network of eight ramps has been meticulously constructed, facilitating travel in eight different directions from this centralized interchange. This strategic layout is set to greatly enhance connectivity to various regions, as highlighted by Gadkari.

Distinguished attendees at the inauguration ceremony included the Deputy Chief Ministers of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar and Devendra Fadnavis. During the event, Gadkari urged Pawar and Chandrakant Patil to propose names for the newly inaugurated flyover, as reported by the media.

Authorities have outlined that this multi-tiered flyover project was undertaken to mitigate the traffic congestion predicament experienced along the Pune-Bangalore highway NH48 and its adjoining local areas.

It is noteworthy that the groundwork for this ambitious project was initiated around five years ago. With financial contributions from both the state government and the Pune Municipal Corporation, the estimated cost of the venture stands at Rs. 865 crore.

Chandani Chowk holds significance as a major intersection linking several prominent localities such as Bavdhan, National Defence Academy, Pashan, Mulshi Road, Paud Road within Pune, as well as the Mumbai-Bangalorebypass. The persisting traffic challenges along this highway propelled the civic authorities to embark on the redevelopment of Chandani Chowk.

The comprehensive flyover infrastructure encompasses four bridges and two underpasses, resulting in a combined length of 16.98 km, as confirmed by officials.
