Tis Hazari Court dispute: Lawyers declare strike, important meeting between judges and police

New Delhi: After a clash of lawyers and police in Tis Hazari Court, bar associations have called for a 24-hour strike in all district courts in Delhi on Monday. Members of the Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) have been requested to boycott the work on Monday and support the protest.

The DHCBA will depute the proxy counsel in every court and the list of proxy counsel will be duly circulated. The DHCBA requested the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court Justice DN Patel to order a judicial inquiry into the incident and recommend action against the accused police officers. The Lawyers' Association has demanded that an FIR should be lodged against the accused police officers.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has said that its chairman, the President of the Bar Council of India, the President of the Bar Council of Delhi and the Chief Justice of India and the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court have taken cognizance of the incident. Delhi High Court Chief Justice DN Patel held a more than 5-hour-long meeting with senior judges on Saturday over the entire incident. High Court Registrar General Dinesh Kumar Sharma said that after getting information of the clash, the Chief Justice has called a meeting with the seven senior-most judges of the court to deliberate on the issue.
