Kolkata: West Bengal is going to have assembly elections this year. All the parties have started making preparations in a very noisy manner as the elections are close. Meanwhile, Left party national president Viman Bose has made a big announcement on Sunday. He has said that we will contest with the Congress party to defeat the BJP and Trinamool Congress (TMC).

He further said, "We will contest against the BJP and the TMC to protect West Bengal from religious polarisation. There is no misunderstanding between Congress and us. While the seat-sharing has not yet been discussed," a TMC leader, Sogat Rai, had earlier said that if the Left party and the Congress were really against the BJP, they should join Mamata Banerjee in the fight against the BJP.

After Sogat's statement, Veteran Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, "Mamata Banerjee should come with the Congress as there is no other way than the Congress to stop the BJP. If they can feel like that, they should fight the Congress-led war. Congress had maintained secularism in this country for 100 years by respecting the BJP and its ancestors."
