Gandhi Nagar: After the enactment of the law against Love Jihad in Uttar Pradesh, many states ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are moving ahead with it. After Madhya Pradesh and Haryana, now a BJP MLA in Gujarat has sought to enact a law against Love Jihad and implement it.

MLA from Dabhoi seat Shailesh Mehta said in a public statement that he would soon propose to bring a strict law against 'love jihad' to the Gujarat government. Mehta said, "A strict law against love jihad will be brought in every state where BJP is in power. Gujarat is the first state to believe in Hindutva, so obviously a law against 'love jihad' will be brought here.

Shailesh Mehta further said that many incidents of 'Love Jihad' are happening in Gujarat. Therefore a strict law should be made in Gujarat. He later told a local news channel, "There are many such incidents happening across the country. The Yogi government in UP has come up with an ordinance on this issue. Similarly, a more stringent law should be enacted in Gujarat than UP." He further added, "I will meet CM Vijay Rupani, his deputy Nitin Patel and state Home Minister Pradeep Singh Jadeja and propose in writing. "
