Patna: After the death of 40 people due to poisonous liquor in Chhapra, Bihar's politics has heated up over the prohibition. In such a situation, there has been an uproar after dozens of bottles of liquor were found in the Mahabodhi temple complex of Bodh Gaya. On Wednesday, around a dozen liquor bottles were seized from the Mahabodhi temple premises in Bodh Gaya during a search operation, police said.
According to police, some bottles were found in bushes near the barracks and the mess of the policemen posted there, while some bottles were seized from a policeman's bag. Foreign tourists come to the Mahabodhi temple in huge numbers, due to which security is emphasized in the temple. The temple is in news due to the possible visit of Buddhist spiritual leader Dalai Lama later this year.
After liquor bottles were found on the temple premises, Gaya SSP Harpreet Kaur said, "We had some inputs about the violation of prohibition in the temple premises. So a search operation was conducted, during which about half a dozen liquor bottles were seized from the bag of a policeman. Bottles have been found near the barracks of some police personnel.'' They said, "The bottles are empty and the policemen are on leave, but we have demanded departmental action against them.'' The SSP said some unwanted items, along with the materials supplied to the police personnel posted on the temple premises have been found. SSP Harpreet Kaur said, "There is high security at the entrance of Mahabodhi temple and nothing is allowed without scanning. Bihar has been under complete prohibition since 2016 and the Nitish government's move has been widely appreciated by women, especially in the state.''
