New Delhi: Private shopkeepers selling liquor in Delhi will now be able to sell liquor cheaply. The excise department has allowed private shops selling liquor to give a discount of up to 25 per cent on the maximum retail price (MRP). This has been stated in a report received. Delhi government in February banned the exemption and sale scheme on liquor bottles. The decision was taken due to the non-compliance of the restrictions related to the prevention of Corona properly and due to improper treatment in the market.

The Excise Commissioner of Delhi gave his permission for the sale of liquor with a discount. According to the order, private shops selling liquor in the Delhi region can offer relaxations of up to 25 restrictions on MRP. Due to this, section 20 of the Delhi Excise Rules, 2010 will have to be strictly complied with.

Shops licensed for the sale of liquor in Delhi will have to strictly adhere to the prescribed terms and conditions and strict action will be taken against them under the Delhi Excise Act in case of any violation. However, the excise commissioner's order states, "In view of the public interest, the government reserves the right to withdraw the exemption at any time. There will be no compulsion on the government to continue with the decision to grant exemptions." In the month of February, amid the continuing outbreak of the corona epidemic, there were instances of huge crowding outside shops in several areas due to the relaxations given by private shops on liquor sales in Delhi and schemes like 'Buy One, Get One Free.' Subsequently, the government had banned the exemption from selling liquor.
