Lokayukta raids house of BJP MLA's son, recovers Rs6 cr

The Karnataka Lokayukta conducted a raid on Prashant Maadal's home on March 3, A day after BJP MLA's son was caught for taking Rs.40 lakh fine.

The son of BJP MLA Maadal Virupakshappa, Prashant Maadal serves as head accountant for the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB). Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Ltd is also led by Virupakshappa (KSDL).
According to the report, the search operation at his home is still ongoing.

In the Karnataka Soap and Detergent office on March 2, the anti-corruption division of Lokayukta arrested Virupakshappa's son as he accepted a bribe of Rs. 40 lakh from a contractor.

The son of BJP MLA Maadal Virupakshappa, Prashanth Maadal, was apprehended by the Lokayukta's anti-corruption division yesterday while accepting a Rs. 40 lakh bribe. About Rs. 1.7 crore in cash was found in his workplace, according to Karnataka Lokayukta.

According to Lokayukta sources who spoke to the media, Prashanth was allegedly accepting the "first instalment" of the bribe on his father's behalf. The first installment of the MLA's son's demand, which totaled Rs. 81 lakh, was for Rs. 40 lakh. The trap was set after the contractor approached the Lokayukta a week earlier.

More than Rs. 1.7 crore in cash was reportedly discovered at Prashanth Madal's workplace, according to Lokayukta.
Basavaraj Bommai, the chief minister of Karnataka, said , "Lokayukta has raided the son of an MLA. All I can say is that the Lokayukta was shut down under the control of Congress, thus its re-establishment is necessary to combat corruption in the state. I have said earlier also that a fair and impartial investigation will be conducted. Our goal is to penalise the offenders for their actions. Everything should be revealed because Lokayukta has all the information on who paid for what and where it came from, said Bommai.

"Karnataka CM keeps requesting us to show documents, what more documents does he require...all can be found at BJP MLA's residence and ministers' offices," said Congress MLA Priyank Kharge in response to CM Bommai.
