Low-pressure forms off the Andhra coast, heavy rains expected

Amaravati:  A low-pressure zone has formed over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal off the coastlines of Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha, according to the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA).

"A low-pressure system has formed over the north-west Bay of Bengal off the West Bengal coast, as per the Indian Meteorological Department's (IMD) prediction of August 28 at 8 a.m.,"  APSDMA official said.

According to the disaster management department, the associated cyclonic circulation extends up to mid-tropospheric level and is tilting southwards with height. According to the official, widespread rainfall activity, including heavy rainfall in portions of coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema, is expected on Saturday and Sunday as a result of the low pressure and cyclonic circulation.
