Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu highlighted the achievements of the Congress government in education, health, and employment sectors while campaigning for Dharamshala Congress candidate Devendra Jaggi. Jaggi, nominated by the Congress party for the Dharamshala by-elections, replaced former MLA Sudhir Sharma, who switched sides to the BJP.
Sukhu stressed the government's dedication to people's welfare, citing various schemes benefiting different sections of society. He emphasized the government's proactive approach in addressing societal needs without any preconditions. Accusing the former MLA of prioritizing personal gain over public service, Sukhu stated, "Former MLAs have become the biggest land mafia. Their interests lie not in serving the people but in amassing wealth."
During his speech, Sukhu also outlined the government's progress in various sectors and pledged to continue working for the state's development. He criticized the BJP, alleging that during Jairam Thakur's tenure as CM, the state failed to secure funds from the central government. Sukhu accused BJP leaders of neglecting disaster-affected families and engaging solely in politics.
Sukhu also accused the BJP of distributing money during the Rajya Sabha elections, alleging that some former BJP MLAs received hefty amounts, which would be used to buy votes in the upcoming elections. "This election is not about saving the CM or the government, but about protecting democracy," Sukhu asserted, urging voters to reject money offered by the opposition and to support the Congress.
