Lt General MV Suchindra Kumar names Vice Chief of Army Staff

NEW DELHI: Lieutenant General MV Suchindra Kumar assumed the post of  the Deputy Chief of the Army Staff on Wednesday, March 1. According to the Ministry of Defence, "The General Officer has taken over the appointment from Lieutenant General BS Raju, who has assumed Sapta Shakti Command, situated in Jaipur."

Before assuming the position of Vice Chief of the Army Staff, Kumar was Army Headquarters' Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy). In his most recent positions, he has demonstrated expertise in intelligence, operations, force organisation, operational logistics, and tech infusion. 

The General Officer, a graduate of the Sainik School Bijapur and the National Defense Academy, was commissioned into the 1 Assam Regiment in June 1985. He has led the highly active White Knight Corps in Northern Command, an Infantry Brigade, an Infantry Division, and the 59 Rashtriya Rifles Battalion (ASSAM) on the Line of Control, according to the ministry.

The General Officer has served in a number of staff and teaching positions, including as an instructor at Infantry School, Mhow, Senior Operations Officer in the United Nations Sector in Cambodia, Colonel (Policy) in the Military Secretary Branch, Indian Army Training Team at Lesotho, Brigadier General Staff (Operations) of a Corps in the Eastern Theatre, Additional Director General Military Intelligence, and Director General Military Intelligence at Army HQ. "The Officer has studied at the National Defence College in New Delhi, the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, and the Higher Command Course in Mhow.

He has also attended courses on ‘United Nations Senior Mission Leaders Course’ in Egypt and ‘Cooperative Security in South Asia’ in Sri Lanka. His military papers have been published in a number of professional journals," the ministry said.
