Lucknow: Construction of a six-lane expressway between Lucknow and Kanpur to get rid of traffic jams is scheduled to begin from March. The Central Government has sanctioned a budget of Rs. 1935.64 crore for construction of expressways. NHAI Project Director NN Giri has informed that the length of the expressway is about 63 km. The distance from Lucknow to Kanpur will be completed in just 45 minutes after the expressway is ready.

NN Giri said the tender for the expressway has been opened. Half a dozen companies have applied for the same. The technical capacity of the companies is being tested. The contract process will be initiated by selecting the company by January 5. The construction of the outer ring road under construction to relieve city dwellers from traffic jams will be completed by June 2022. He said the construction work from Sitapur Road to Kursi Road will be completed in January.

Giri said that construction work from Sultanpur Road to Behata is targeted for completion by March 2022 and from Behata Road to Sitapur Road by June 2022. He said that with the construction of the outer ring road, about 20 lakh population of Lucknow will get rid of traffic jams.
