Former TN Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's elder son M K Azhagiri said on Tuesday that his role would be there in the elections to the Tamil Nadu Assembly due in 4-5 months time. In a detailed questionnaire with reports, Azhagiri said he would hold consultations with his supporters and decide on his stand in the ensuing polls. 'My part will be there in the coming Assembly polls', he said, without explaining anything further.

Replying the reporters on information that he might join the BJP, he said he would not reply to false speculations. On the possibility of starting a new party, Alagiri, who is the eldest son of late Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi, said 'whatever be the decision it would be taken only after holding consultations with my supporters'.

Ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to the city, expelled former DMK MP K P Ramalingam joined the BJP and he said he would try to convince Alagiri to join the saffron party, a week earlier.
Earlier, State BJP chief L Murugan had said, “So far, I (Murugan) have not received any information about Alagiri joining the party and if he wishes we will welcome him. BJP is open to all and many new persons from various parties are joining the BJP”. However, MK Alagiri, denied the reports and informed no one from the BJP had spoken to him. Asked about Mr Murugan's remarks, he said the BJP leader had only expressed his opinion.
